Welcome to the website for landscape facilities products and knowledge.
How do you handle the disposal and recycling of old benches and trashcans when we replace them?
When the time comes for us to say goodbye to a well-worn bench or a dented trash can, we don't just toss them aside. We see it as a transition, a respectful retirement after years of loyal service. Our process begins with a careful assessment. Each piece is collected and transported to a specialized facility where our team performs a sort of "physical exam." We determine what can be given a second chance through refurbishment and what is ready for its next chapter through recycling.
For benches, often made of sturdy metal and wood, we meticulously dismantle them. Metal frames are separated, cleaned, and sent to smelters where they are melted down to become raw material for new products—perhaps even part of a future bench. Treatable wood slats are sanded, repaired, and repurposed for community projects or converted into landscaping mulch.
Trash cans, primarily plastic or metal, follow a similar dedicated path. They are thoroughly cleaned and then crushed or shredded. Plastic fragments are washed, melted, and pelletized to be reborn as anything from park fencing to durable plastic lumber. Metal cans are compacted and sent to mills, entering the cycle of new manufacturing.
We handle every step with the core belief that nothing truly needs to be "waste." Our mission is to ensure that every retired piece of public furniture is processed responsibly, maximizing recovery and minimizing what ends up in a landfill. It’s our commitment to closing the loop, honoring the materials that served our community, and paving the way for their successors.
