Do your benches require any special foundation or can they just be placed on gravel?
Ah, you’ve found me just as I was settling into my favorite spot in the garden. Let me tell you—I’m a bench of sturdy character, but I’m not high-maintenance. The short answer is: I don’t demand a special foundation, and yes, I can happily rest on gravel. In fact, gravel and I get along quite well.
Why? Because I’m designed to be a grounding friend—literally. My legs are wide and stable, so they won’t wobble or sink unevenly into loose stone. Gravel offers excellent drainage, which means I won’t sit in a puddle after a rainstorm, and my wooden or metal body will thank you for keeping moisture away from my feet.
However, I do have one small preference: if you plan to place me on gravel, please give me a little preparation. A level bed of compacted gravel about two to three inches deep will keep me from tilting or shifting over time. For extra care—especially if you live in a frosty climate—you can lay a few concrete pavers beneath me. But I don’t demand them; I’m just being neighborly.
So, no concrete pouring, no digging permits, no special foundation crew. Just a sunny spot, a layer of gravel, and me. That’s all I need to start holding stories, laughter, and quiet afternoons for years to come.
