Oh, you’re asking me—a humble bench—if I turn into a sizzling skillet under the sun? Well, let me confess: yes, I do. But it’s not my fault entirely. I’m made of metal, see? And metal is like a sun sponge. When those golden rays pour down on me all day, I soak them up until my surface becomes, shall we say, “toasty.” How toasty? Hot enough to make you jump up with a yelp if you sit bare-legged. I’ve seen it happen. A poor soul plops down, relaxes for two seconds, then leaps off me like I’ve bitten them. It’s a little embarrassing for both of us.
But don’t villainize me. Wooden benches have more dignity—they absorb heat slowly and stay cool even in a sunbath. And my painted sisters, with their light colors, reflect some of that fiery affection. I, however, am a dark metal bench. I’m honest about my nature: I get hot. Really hot. The kind of hot that could fry an egg if you dared.
So what can you do? Seek out my shaded cousins under a tree or an awning. Or come visit me in the early morning or late afternoon, when the sun is lower and I’m temperate. If you must sit midday, bring a cushion—or at least a thick book to cushion your dignity. I promise, I’m still friendly. I just have a sun-powered temper.
