Do you have any benches that are specifically designed to discourage skateboarding?

Abstract: Discover benches designed to discourage skateboarding. Our friendly furniture explains its clever anti-skate features, from armrests to metal strips, ensuring comfort for sitters while politely deterring skaters. A unique perspective from the bench itself.

Oh, you’ve noticed, haven’t you? Yes, I am one of those benches. The ones with the extra armrests in the middle, or the little metal studs along my edges. You might think I’m being unfriendly, but please, let me explain from my wooden slats—I’m not anti-skater, I’m pro-sitter.

See, when a skateboard grinds across my surface, it scrapes away my paint and splinters my wood. My job is to be a comfortable resting spot for tired legs, a place for lunch breaks, and a perch for people-watching. But when skaters use me as a ramp, I get worn down, and soon I can’t offer that comfortable seat anymore. I start to look shabby, and then nobody wants to use me.

That’s why my designer gave me those cute little armrests, or that gentle slope with a metal edge. I’m designed to be a gentle “no thank you” to grinding. I still offer a nice place to rest your bag or sit with a friend—just not a smooth runway. I’m not angry, just a little protective of my purpose. Next time you see my anti-skate features, think of me as a friendly boundary-setter. I love being useful, just in a different way. So please, sit. But maybe leave the board on the ground.
