Then, we seal that smoothness with a food-grade, VOC-free oil finish that penetrates deep into the wood fibers, locking them together like tiny interlocking hands. This finish cures for 48 hours and is buffed to a low luster. The result? A bench so gentle that even a child’s bare leg could slide across it without complaint—I’ve tested that myself with my own nephew.

And because splinters are often born from damage over time, we round every edge with a 1/8-inch radius. Sharp corners are treacherous; gentle curves are forgiving. We also distress-test each bench by dragging a tightly woven cloth under pressure across every inch of the seat. If the cloth snags, the bench goes back to the sander.
