Start with the countertop itself. Opt for materials with rounded or softened edges instead of sharp, 90-degree corners. A bullnose or waterfall edge profile on quartz, smooth concrete, or sealed wood significantly reduces the risk of injury from bumps and falls. The surface should also be non-porous and easy to clean from spills, which are inevitable with kids.

Consider the bar's height and accessibility. A multi-level or tiered counter design is an excellent solution.
