High-performance materials like marine-grade aluminum, stainless steel (specifically 316 grade), and certain engineered polymers inherently resist salt's corrosive properties. These materials are often the foundation for tables designed for oceanfront use. For wood tables, such as teak or shorea, natural oils provide initial resistance, but most require a robust protective sealant. The true defense, however, lies in the applied finish. Powder coating, a dry finishing process, creates a thick, uniform shield that is far superior to standard paint in bonding to metal, preventing salt from penetrating to the substrate. Finishes mitigate this by preventing direct contact. Maintenance is crucial: regular rinsing with fresh water dissolves salt deposits before they crystallize and cause micro-abrasions.
