Unlike natural wood, WPC combines polymers and wood fibers, which can influence light absorption and scattering in the surrounding soil.

In a controlled experiment, soil samples beneath WPC-lined tree boxes exhibited reduced reflectance in the near-infrared (NIR) spectrum compared to untreated soil.
